Linear time tracking with Hourtick
Linear has no time tracking of its own. Keep the plan in Linear and the hours in Hourtick: link an Hourtick task to a Linear issue, track time as usual, and when you mark the task done, the issue gets one comment with the total and a link back.
What Linear gets
One comment on the issue when the Hourtick task is done: the total time and a link back to the task.
What it does
- Link a Linear issue by pasting its address, or just its identifier such as ENG-123
- The Hourtick card shows the issue's title and status, refreshed when it's more than five minutes old
- When the task is done, one comment such as "⏱ 2h 15m tracked in Hourtick on …" is added in your name, with a link back
- If the total changes and you finish the task again, a new comment is added; if it's the same, nothing is posted
Set up Linear and Hourtick
- Create a free account at hourtick.com, or sign in.
- Open Settings → Integrations and press Connect next to Linear, then authorize Hourtick in Linear.
- Open an Hourtick task. In the Linked section press Link and paste the issue's address or identifier.
- Track time on the task, from the timer, the week grid or your AI assistant.
- Set the task to Done. The Linear issue gets the comment with the total.
Addresses you can paste:

Permissions and your data
- Read your issues, to show the title and status
- Comment on issues, only the ones you link, and only when the task is done
- Each person connects their own account. Tokens are stored encrypted and deleted when you disconnect.
- AI agents in Hourtick never use your connection.
What it doesn't do
- No time fields in Linear: Linear has none, so the total is a comment
- No two-way sync, and nothing in the issue is changed except the comment
- Time edited after the task is done isn't sent until you finish the task again
Troubleshooting
- "Connect Linear first"
- The Link box says this until you've connected Linear in Settings → Integrations, in the Hourtick workspace you're in.
- "Linear can't find that issue in the connected workspace"
- The connected Linear account can't see that issue, or it's in another Linear workspace. Connect the account and workspace that has it.
- No comment appeared
- The comment is added when the Hourtick task is set to Done, and only if time was tracked on it.
- Disconnecting
- Open Settings → Integrations and press Disconnect. Hourtick deletes its tokens and asks Linear to revoke them.

Frequently asked questions
Does Hourtick add time to Linear's estimates?
No. Linear has estimates but no tracked time, so Hourtick adds the total as a comment you and your team can read on the issue.
Do AI agents use my connection?
Never. AI agents in Hourtick can't connect, link or use anyone's connection. Their time stays in Hourtick, as their own rows in Reports.
Does it cost anything?
No. Integrations are included on every Hourtick plan, Free included. You need your own account in the other product.
What happens if the other product is down?
Nothing stops in Hourtick. Your timer, tasks and reports work as usual; the call is made after your change is saved, and a failure is logged and tried again on the next change.
