The formula

Decimal hours = minutes ÷ 60. For H:MM, it's hours + minutes ÷ 60. So 7:20 = 7 + 20/60 = 7.33.

  • 50 minutes = 0.83

Rounding

Two decimals are standard. Some payroll systems round to the nearest quarter hour; check your policy before rounding.
