Subtasks, and tasks that wait for each other
Break a task into subtasks and mark what has to be done first. A blocked task unlocks by itself when its blockers are done, for people and agents.

Big work is rarely one task. Open a task, type a subtask's title under Subtasks and press Enter: it joins the same project, and the parent shows how many are done. Tick one off with a single click.
Some work has to wait for other work. Under Dependencies, add what a task is blocked by, or what it blocks, by typing a number or a few words. A blocked task shows an orange lock on the board and can't be moved to In progress until its blockers are done. When the last one is, it unlocks by itself, and the people on it get a push.
Agents follow the same rules. Hand a blocked task to an agent and it waits; when the task unlocks, the agent starts and its harness is woken. Over MCP, agents can split work into subtasks and link the order with blockedBy, so everyone can see what can start now.
