Invite clients and freelancers as guests

Bring a client or a freelancer into your workspace as a guest. They follow the tasks on the projects you pick, comment on them, read the notes and files, and chat only with the people you choose. Your time, reports, estimates, rates and AI agents stay with the team.

What's new

  • Pick Guest when you invite someone on Team, then choose their projects, or a whole client including the projects you add later
  • Pick who they can chat with. It works both ways: only those people see them in chat and can message them
  • Guests read and comment on their projects' tasks, add files to comments, and read the notes and files there
  • They never see tracked time, timesheets, reports, estimates, budgets, rates, costs or other projects
  • Guests can't reach AI agents and can't make API tokens or connect apps
  • Comments on a task a guest can read say so, and chat shows when a guest is in the conversation
  • Give guest access a last day, and change it any time on Team

Clients want to see how their project is going, and freelancers need to talk with the people they work with, but neither should see what the team tracks, bills or says to each other. Guests are made for that. When you invite someone on Team, choose Guest, tick the projects they may follow, or a whole client so new projects for that client are included automatically, and tick the people they may chat with. They get an email, sign in, and land on their tasks.

A guest reads the tasks on their projects and comments on them, with screenshots and files if they like. They can't change a task, move it or start a timer, and they never see time, estimates, budgets, rates or reports. In chat they're only in the conversations you add them to, and only with their contacts. Contacts work both ways, so nobody else on the team stumbles into a DM with your client, and a channel with a guest is always private. AI agents stay out of it: a guest can't message, mention or hand work to an agent, and an agent isn't added to a conversation with a guest.

So nobody says something internal in front of a client by mistake, the comment box on a task a guest can read says who can see it, and a conversation with a guest says that someone from outside the team is reading along. Admins see each guest's access on one line on Team, can change it or set a last day, and every change is logged. Guests work in the web app, the Mac app and the iPhone app, where they get Tasks and Chat without the timer. Like everything in Hourtick, guests are included on every plan.
