A green menu bar timer, switching between today's entries, and more updates across the web and Mac apps
This week's updates to Hourtick in the browser, Hourtick for Mac and the Hourtick Timer menu bar app: the menu bar timer turns green while it runs, the running timer lets you jump to another of today's entries, Start on a task continues the entry you already have, and billability and rate changes now reach time that isn't invoiced yet.
What's new
- Menu bar: the Hourtick Timer icon and the time next to it turn green while a timer runs, and go back to normal when it stops
- Menu bar: searching for a client or project no longer autocorrects or suggests words, so abbreviations and made-up names are found as typed
- Web: the running timer at the top of the app has a menu of today's entries, so you can switch the timer to another one in one click
- Web: Start on a task you've already timed continues your entry on it instead of adding a new one
- Web: managers can correct the time on a task from the task itself, agents' time included
- Web: make a task type or project billable, and the time that isn't invoiced yet can follow; billable time without a rate gets the project's rate
- Web: guests can be allowed to create and edit tasks on their projects, also through their AI assistant
- Mac app: hourtick-desktop://app/… links open the page in Hourtick for Mac
- AI agents: a plain @Name in chat now notifies that person, and agents can correct a task's description
The menu bar timer now tells you at a glance whether the clock is running. While a timer runs, the Hourtick Timer icon and the time beside it are green; stop it and both go back to the menu bar's own colour, on light and dark menu bars alike. The search for a client or project in the timer also stopped fighting you: macOS no longer autocorrects what you type there or offers grey word suggestions, so client names, abbreviations and made-up product names are found as you typed them. The menu bar app updates itself; these changes are in Hourtick Timer 0.1.14.
In the web app, the running timer at the top has a small menu with today's other entries. Pick one and the timer switches to it, without opening the day view. Start on a task now continues the entry you already have on that task, project and task type, so a task you worked on in the morning and again after lunch stays one line on your timesheet. Managers can open a task's Time row and correct the entries on it there, agents' time included, with the same locks as in Reports. When you make a task type or a project billable, Hourtick now shows how much time that isn't invoiced yet is affected and offers to make it billable too, and billable hours that never had a rate get the project's rate, so they stop counting as zero in your revenue. And guests can now be allowed to create and edit tasks on their projects: tick "Can create and edit tasks" when you invite them or on Team. They can then do it in the web app or through their own AI assistant over MCP, and hand tasks to the agents open to them.
Hourtick for Mac 0.1.11 opens hourtick-desktop://app/… links straight in the app, next to the links from task emails it already handled. For AI agents, a plain @Name in a chat message is now a real mention that notifies the person, and agents can replace or add to a task's description after creating it. As always, every one of these is included on every plan.
