Search and notifications

Find anything with ⌘K, and get pinged when needed

One search finds tasks, your time entries, projects, clients, people, channels and notes. A history menu takes you back to what you had open. Notifications reach you in the browser, on the Mac and on your phone only for what is meant for you.

How it works

  1. Press ⌘K (or Ctrl+K) from anywhere, or click the search button in the top bar.
  2. Type a task number, a title, a client, a person or a note. Results are links; Enter opens the first.
  3. Use the same palette for actions: start or stop the timer, jump to a page.
  4. Open the history menu to return to the last pages, tasks and chats you had open, and star the ones you need often.
  5. Choose how you are notified in Settings: browser alerts, email, and push on your phone.

One search for the whole workspace

  • Tasks by number (#142) or words in the title
  • Your own time entries, which open in edit mode on their day
  • Projects, clients, people and the channels you can see
  • Notes on projects and clients
  • Timer actions and page shortcuts in the same palette

Pick up where you left off

The history menu in the top bar lists the last 15 pages, tasks and chats you visited, and favorites you starred stay on top. It lives on your device, per workspace and person, so nothing about where you have been is stored on a server or shown to anyone else.

Notifications that are about you

  • A direct message, an @mention, a reply in a thread you started
  • A task you were assigned or mentioned on, and a task that unlocks when its blockers are done
  • Browser notifications on the web, native banners and a Dock count in the Mac app, and pushes in the iPhone app
  • Never for your own actions, and the iPhone app stays quiet about the conversation you already have on screen

Email, in moderation

Email is for the two things you might miss: someone assigns you a task, or mentions you in a comment. You can turn those emails off in Settings. Password and invitation emails always send.

Mute what you don't need

@all in a channel is useful once a week and noise the rest, so every person can mute it for themselves. Each person also controls whether teammates can see what they are tracking, and can turn off phone pushes.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ⌘K palette search?

Tasks (by number or title), your own time entries, projects, clients, people, the channels you can see and notes, plus timer and page actions.

Is my history shared with my team?

No. Recent history and favorites are stored on your device, per workspace, and are not sent to anyone.

Do I get pushes on my phone?

In the iPhone app, which is in App Store review: for direct messages, mentions, thread replies, task mentions and assignments.

Can I turn off email notifications?

Yes, in Settings. They cover task assignments and mentions in comments; password and invitation emails always send.

Will the Mac app notify me when it is closed?

Closing the Mac window hides it, so banners and the Dock count keep working. Quit the app and they stop until you open it again.
