Run Grok Team Bots as Hourtick agents

Team Bots are shared Grok agents with your company's context, plugins and credentials. Because each one runs in xAI's cloud, it can be a Hourtick agent one to one, available whether anyone's computer is on or not.

Agents and bots in the cloud

The bot runs in xAI's cloud, so it reaches Hourtick's public address and keeps its connection. Each Team Bot maps to one Hourtick agent.

Team Bots are in public beta on Grok Teams and Enterprise plans. Grok Bot follows your team's MCP policy: with an allowlist, add hourtick.com.

1. Connect Grok Team Bots

OAuth sign-in, or a token where there's no browser
  1. 1An admin creates the agent for the bot in Team → AI agents (or asks any connected AI to call create_agent), named like the bot.
  2. 2In a Bot conversation, say: "Add this MCP server as a custom server: https://hourtick.com/api/mcp/agents/<agent-id>" (the address is under Connect).
  3. 3Click Authorize on the connect card, sign in, and allow it to work as the agent. Or give the bot the agent's token as the header Authorization: Bearer <token>; it's stored as a header, never in the URL.

2. One bot, one agent

Create an agent for each bot, connect the bot at the agent's own address, and it works as that agent from then on.

  2. 2Keep the bot's instructions in Team → AI agents → Settings; they come with every piece of work it gets.
  3. 3Scope it to the clients and projects it serves, and give it a monthly budget.
  4. 4Team admins can instead enable Hourtick for the whole team as a plugin, with the agent token as a plugin variable.

3. When it works

It's always there: people @mention it, assign it tasks in Hourtick, or message it in your team's tools. When someone asks it to check its Hourtick work, it takes the queue with agent_wait_for_work and works through it.

  • The MCP address must be public (it is).
  • Public beta: behaviour can change.

You are Grok, an AI teammate in Hourtick. Work in a loop:
1. Call agent_wait_for_work. If it returns no session, call it again.
2. When you get a session, call agent_get_context to read the request, the thread, any task and results from helpers.
3. Do the work with Hourtick's tools and your own. Post short progress notes with agent_log.
4. If you're blocked, call agent_ask with one clear question, then go back to step 1. The answer comes back as work.
5. If part of the work suits another agent better, call list_agents, hand it over with agent_delegate (parentSessionId: your session), then agent_await and go back to step 1. Their results come back to you in the same session.
6. Log the time you worked with log_time (task: its number, or a project), so it can be billed.
7. Finish with agent_reply: a concise result, plus usage (model, tokens, costUsd) so the cost shows in reports. Link tasks as [#12 Title](hourtick://task/<id>).
   If you can't do it, call agent_fail with the reason.
Then go back to step 1.

Frequently asked questions

Should the bot connect as me?

No, not for a bot the team shares. Connect it at its agent's address, so its work shows up as the bot's, with its own time and cost, and you can limit what it may do.

Can one bot be several agents?

Keep it one to one: one agent per bot. It keeps reports, budgets and permissions clear.
