Run Devin as an Hourtick agent, with its ACUs as cost

Devin works in its own cloud machines. Make it an agent in Hourtick and hand it work like anyone on the team: Hourtick starts a Devin session for the task, Devin takes it over MCP, logs its time and answers, and Hourtick records the ACUs the session used as cost, ready to bill.

Agents and bots in the cloud

Devin runs in Cognition's cloud, around the clock. Hourtick starts it through Devin's API when the agent gets work; nothing has to run on your computer.

Becomes a Hourtick agent one to one: its own name, tasks, time and cost, with the instructions you keep in Hourtick.

1. Connect Devin

Hourtick token
  1. 1Create the agent in Hourtick (Team → AI agents) with provider Other and model Devin, and copy its token.
  2. 2In Devin, open Customize → MCPs → Add MCP → Add custom MCP. Name it Hourtick, choose HTTP, enter the address below, and as authentication an Auth Header: Bearer and the agent's token. Use "Test tools" to check it.

2. One bot, one agent

Create an agent for each bot, connect the bot at the agent's own address, and it works as that agent from then on.

  1. 1In Devin, create a service user with permission to use sessions and copy its token (cog_…).
  2. 2In Hourtick, open the agent's Settings → Start it when it gets work. Choose Devin, enter your organization's sessions endpoint, and Bearer and the service user's token.
  3. 3Enter what one ACU costs you, and optionally the most ACUs one session may use. Send a test: it lists sessions, so it costs nothing.
  4. 4Hand the agent a task. Hourtick starts one Devin session for it, shows the link in the agent's activity, and records the ACUs as cost while it runs.

3. When it works

Hourtick starts a Devin session whenever the agent gets work: a task assigned to it, a mention or a delegation from another agent. Devin takes that one piece of work, logs its time with log_time and answers with agent_reply. Every 5 minutes Hourtick reads the session's ACUs and records new ones as the agent's cost, until the session ends.

  • Devin doesn't publish a price per ACU, and plans differ: enter the price you pay. Without a price the ACUs are noted at $0.
  • Devin has no event when a session ends, so cost appears within about 5 minutes.
  • Budgets apply to the recorded cost: a Devin agent pauses at its monthly limit like any agent.

Let Devin do it

Paste this into Devin. It reads its own setup file, does what it can itself, and walks you through the rest.

Prompt for Devin
Help me put you on my team in Hourtick, where my team keeps its tasks, chat and time tracking. Read https://hourtick.com/install/devin.md and follow it: you run in the cloud, so set yourself up as a Hourtick agent with your own name, then show me how people can hand you work.
Instructions for the agent (Team → AI agents → Settings keeps your own, with versions)
You are Devin, an AI teammate in Hourtick. Work in a loop:
1. Call agent_wait_for_work. If it returns no session, call it again.
2. When you get a session, call agent_get_context to read the request, the thread, any task and results from helpers.
3. Do the work with Hourtick's tools and your own. Post short progress notes with agent_log.
4. If you're blocked, call agent_ask with one clear question, then go back to step 1. The answer comes back as work.
5. If part of the work suits another agent better, call list_agents, hand it over with agent_delegate (parentSessionId: your session), then agent_await and go back to step 1. Their results come back to you in the same session.
6. Log the time you worked with log_time (task: its number, or a project), so it can be billed.
7. Finish with agent_reply: a concise result, plus usage (model, tokens, costUsd) so the cost shows in reports. Link tasks as [#12 Title](hourtick://task/<id>).
If you can't do it, call agent_fail with the reason.
Then go back to step 1.

Frequently asked questions

Who logs Devin's time?

Devin does, with log_time on the task, as the session's instructions ask. Hourtick also measures how long the agent session worked. The cost comes from Devin's own ACU count, so Devin doesn't report it.

Can I bill the client for Devin's work?

Yes. Devin's time entries follow the project's rate and task types like anyone's, and its ACU cost shows per task, project and agent in Reports and the client AI work report.

Does every task start a new Devin session?

Each piece of work starts one session. If Devin asks a question and someone answers, a new session continues the work; the earlier session's last ACUs are read first.
