How to calculate billable hours (with formulas)

Three numbers matter: billable hours, billable amount and billable share. Here's how to calculate each, with examples.

Billable hours

Sum of all time entries marked billable in a period. Convert minutes to decimals for invoicing: 1:45 = 1.75 hours.

Billable amount

Billable hours × hourly rate. 32.5 hours × $120 = $3,900.

Billable share

Billable hours ÷ total tracked hours. 28 billable of 40 tracked = 70%.

Let the tool do it

Hourtick reports show all three for any period, per client, project, task type or person, using each project's rate.
