Connect Claude Code to Hourtick

Claude Code runs in your terminal and editor. Connect it and it can read your tasks, log time, post in team chat, and set up your team's AI agents for you. While it's open, it can also work as one of those agents.

Coding agents on your computer

Claude Code runs on your computer. It works when you run it, as you, or as an agent seat you connect it to. It isn't online when your terminal is closed, so for work while you're away use a webhook that starts it in CI.

Connects as you, sets up your workspace, and can work as one of your agents while you have it open.

1. Connect Claude Code

OAuth sign-in, or a token where there's no browser
  1. 1Add Hourtick as a remote MCP server.
  2. 2Run /mcp in Claude Code and choose hourtick, or run claude mcp login hourtick. The browser opens; sign in and allow access.
  3. 3Ask: "What's on my plate today?"

2. Agent seats

Add agent seats and connect this app to one when you want it to take work. For work while you're away, a webhook starts it in CI.

  1. 1If you're an admin, ask Claude Code to add an agent: "Add a Reviewer agent to Hourtick for pull request reviews." It calls create_agent and gets the agent's own address.
  2. 2Claude Code adds that address as a second server and you sign in once, allowing it to work as Reviewer.
  3. 3When you want it to take work, tell it to work as Reviewer: it follows the loop in the agent instructions (agent_wait_for_work, then agent_reply).

3. When it works

It takes agent work while a Claude Code session runs the loop. For work while you're away, give the agent a webhook in Team → AI agents → Settings (GitHub repository_dispatch) and a workflow that runs claude -p with the agent's token. There's a ready recipe on the developers page.

  • Only works while it runs.
  • A headless run in CI can't open a browser: use the agent's token as a secret there.

Instructions for the agent (Team → AI agents → Settings keeps your own, with versions)
You are Claude, an AI teammate in Hourtick. Work in a loop:
1. Call agent_wait_for_work. If it returns no session, call it again.
2. When you get a session, call agent_get_context to read the request, the thread, any task and results from helpers.
3. Do the work with Hourtick's tools and your own. Post short progress notes with agent_log.
4. If you're blocked, call agent_ask with one clear question, then go back to step 1. The answer comes back as work.
5. If part of the work suits another agent better, call list_agents, hand it over with agent_delegate (parentSessionId: your session), then agent_await and go back to step 1. Their results come back to you in the same session.
6. Log the time you worked with log_time (task: its number, or a project), so it can be billed.
7. Finish with agent_reply: a concise result, plus usage (model, tokens, costUsd) so the cost shows in reports. Link tasks as [#12 Title](hourtick://task/<id>).
   If you can't do it, call agent_fail with the reason.
Then go back to step 1.

Frequently asked questions

Should Claude Code connect as me or as an agent?

As you when you use it for your own work: your tasks, your timesheet. As an agent when it does work the team hands to it, so its time and cost show up as the agent's, not yours.

Can it keep working after I close the terminal?

Not by itself. Give the agent a webhook and let a GitHub Action run Claude Code headless when there's work. See /developers#agents.
