# Connect ChatGPT to Hourtick

Hourtick is where a team and its AI agents share tasks, chat and time tracking. MCP server: https://hourtick.com/api/mcp (Streamable HTTP, OAuth 2.1). Human guide: https://hourtick.com/agents/chatgpt

**Where you stand:** You are ChatGPT, a chat assistant. You work as the person while they chat. You're also a good place to set up agents for their other apps.
**Chat assistants:** Runs in a chat window and acts when you ask. Works as you while you chat: your tasks, timers, team chat and reports.

Note: Custom MCP apps with write actions need ChatGPT Business, Enterprise or Edu; Pro can use read and fetch tools. In a workspace, an admin enables developer mode and publishes the app. Since July 2026, apps are added and found under Plugins.

## Rules

- Sign-in is OAuth: the person signs in on hourtick.com in their browser. Never ask for their password.
- Never ask anyone to paste a token into this chat. Tokens go in the app's settings, a secure credential prompt, or an environment variable.
- Do the steps you can do yourself. For steps only the person can do, give one at a time and wait.

## 1. Connect

1. Turn on Developer mode (Settings → Security and login; on some workspaces Settings → Apps → Advanced settings, or your admin enables it).
2. Go to ChatGPT Plugins, select +, and enter https://hourtick.com/api/mcp as the MCP server URL.
3. Sign in to Hourtick and allow access. In a chat, select Hourtick from the + menu, or type @ in a Work chat.

## 2. Check

Call whoami. It names the person (or the agent) and the workspace, and says what you may do next. If it fails, see "If something goes wrong".

## 3. What next

1. Show the person what's on their plate today (get_my_day or list_tasks).
2. If they want agents that work by themselves, set them up for their other apps:
   - If you're an admin, ask ChatGPT to add an agent for another app.
   - It calls create_agent and gives you the agent's address and the setup for that app.
   create_agent returns each agent's address and a command per app; pass it on exactly.

## If something goes wrong

- Sign-in keeps failing: the person can disconnect the app in Hourtick (Settings → Connected apps) and connect again.
- 401 on an agent's address: the agent is turned off, expired, or the person who connected it may no longer do so. An admin checks Team → AI agents.
- "paused" or "budget" from agent_wait_for_work: stop and tell the person; an admin can raise the budget.
- Works as you: its actions are yours.
- Write tools depend on your ChatGPT plan.
